How our love for sugarcane led us to support Thailand’s leading elephant rescue foundation.
At Lares, as you might already know, sugarcane is at the core of our drink, and as it turns out, we’re not the only ones who love it. Elephants do too.
This simple yet powerful connection led us to discover the Save Elephant Foundation, an inspiring Thai organisation rescuing elephants from mistreatment and giving them a second chance at life. Their mission truly struck a chord with us, and we’re proud to support their work. Here’s how this partnership came to life and how you can be part of it!
The chosen NGO and its work
We’re proud to support the Save Elephant Foundation, an inspiring non-profit organisation in Thailand dedicated to protecting Asian elephants. Founded by Lek Chailert, a local woman with a global mission, the foundation rescues elephants from abuse and overwork, rehabilitates them, and provides them with a safe, natural home at the renowned Elephant Nature Park.
Through ethical tourism and education, they’re creating long-term change in how elephants are treated, both in Thailand and around the world. Visitors to the park can witness these gentle giants up close and experience a respectful connection.
The challenges elephants face in the region and beyond
Many people don’t realise that elephants across Asia face heartbreaking conditions. From being used for logging and street begging, to performing in circuses and tourist rides, these animals are often separated from their families and endure extreme physical and emotional trauma.
Even so-called “sanctuaries” can mask unethical practices. The Save Elephant Foundation works to raise awareness about this reality and advocate for a better standard, where elephants live freely, without fear or force. But with shrinking habitats, poaching threats, and continued tourist demand for elephant rides, there’s still a long way to go.

We believe doing good should be part of everyday choices, even in what you wear or sip from. That’s why we are soon launching a limited-edition Lares Elephant Collection. From tees to totes to reusable drinkware, these pieces are inspired by the strength and spirit of the elephants we’re helping to protect.
And most importantly? 50% of profits will go directly to the Save Elephant Foundation, supporting rescue work, medical care, and food for the elephants at the park.
